Summer Bloomin'

The William Paca Garden is a two acre oasis of natural beauty in the bustling center of Annapolis’ Historic District. You can visit this reconstructed English Garden and explore the unique parterres, the fascinating physic garden, and be charmed by the Chippendale-style bridge over the fish-shaped pond. Snap a pic of the newly-refurbished Naval Academy Chapel dome with a foreground of gorgeous flowers!

A garden with a star pattern of beds in bloom with red, purple, and pink flowers in the foreground, with green trees behind it and a blue sky. The copper dome of the Naval Academy chapel peeks out of the trees

That's the Flower Parterre is in full bloom - we just love it in July! Here's what's you'll find flowering in the Flower Parterre right now:

In the orchard, our pear arbor and apple, peach and fig trees are starting to bear the load of ripe fruits.

And then there is this beautiful tree, called a Chaste tree, offering a pop of bluish-purple that is just divine.

A tree with multiple trunks, green leaves, and spears of lavender blue flowers. Text reads Chaste Tree, vitex agnus-castus.

There are two Chaste trees in the garden on each side of the terrace, and you'll pass by them on the side stairs that each lead down to the second terrace. This pretty flowering tree is a native of China, but was cultivated here in the US as early as 1670, making it a perfect choice for this colonial garden. And the bees and butterflies just love it!

So, come visit the William Paca Garden soon to see these beautiful blooms! The garden is now open daily. And for those interested in learning more about this secret Annapolis treasure, a special guided garden tour will be offered on Saturday, July 17!

Hope to see you in the Garden!
