Pollinating insects (known as pollinators) serve the purpose of fertilizing many food crops grown in the United States. These food crops include fruits, vegetables and nuts. Essential to our food chain, pollinators such as bees and butterflies can be helped by planting supportive perennials in the garden.
Here is a list of 5 pollinator plants that will be found at the William Paca Garden Plant Sale.

Stokesia laevis ‘Blue Danube (a.k.a. Stokes’ Aster): These foot tall plants have large, daisy-like blue flowers. They bloom all summer and tolerate sun and part shade. A low maintenance plant that is easy to grow!
Monarda ‘Bee Yu Bee True’ Monarda didyma (a.k.a. Bee Balm): Magenta or pink/red flowers (depending on varietal) a few feet tall. Easy to grow. Blooms all summer and tolerates sun or part shade.
Liatris spicata (a.k.a Blazing Star): This full sun plant blooms mid to late summer with wonderful purple flowers.
Coreopsis ‘Big Bang Mercury Rising’ (a.k.a Tickseed): A gorgeous deep-red daisy-like flower that blooms all summer. Happiest in full sun, the foliage grows several feet tall.

Echinacea purpurea ‘PowWow Wild Berry’ (a.k.a. Cone Flower): This easy to grow, Mid-Atlantic native plant features brilliant rose-pink flowers all summer long. Tolerant of sun or part-shade. Grows about 2 feet tall.
