That Which We Call A Rose...

...by any other name would smell as sweet, said Juliet. And our Rose Parterre in the William Paca Garden is so fragrant and lovely right now, we wish we could make these pictures scratch n' sniff.


The Rose Parterre in the Paca Garden features a variety of heirloom roses - some are very old varieties - that peak in their bloom around May each year. All our roses are authentic to the colonial period.


While the colder weather has likely delayed some blooms on a couple of varieties, the Parterre is still putting on quite a show. Here's what's in bloom right now:


A few more varieties are waiting to pop, and we will share their beauty as soon as they do! We'll also highlight the history of some of these special roses in future blog entries, so stay tuned!
