There's nothing like visiting the William Paca Garden in the summer. This 2-acre oasis in the heart of downtown Annapolis does not disappoint in July! Pretty white Mandevillas in pots line our Allée, offering a glamorous backdrop for your stroll. Totally #instagramworthy!
Although many colonial Annapolitans had gardens, only Paca’s has been returned to its original splendor and opened to the public. Intrigued by garden details in the background of Charles Willson Peale’s 1772 portrait of Paca, researchers were able to reconstruct the site from a series of archeological digs that turned up evidence of the garden’s former glory.
Right now, the Flower Parterre is offering huge splashes of color. July is one of the best blooming months for this particular quadrant of our garden! Here's some close-ups of what's in bloom right now:
The Lord Baltimore Hibiscus, in particular, is a staff favorite! Its flashy red blooms are just gorgeous, aren't they?

Over in the Rose Parterre, though most of our roses have reached the end of their bloom time, the Swamp Rose is still pretty in pink. The Swamp Rose (Rosa palustris) tends to have a later blooming period than the other heirloom varieties found in the Rose Parterre.
In the orchard, our fruit trees and vines are starting to bear the load of ripe fruits - including our apple and peach trees! The peaches still need time to ripen, but we can't wait for a juicy, tasty, fresh white peach!
Come visit the William Paca Garden soon! We'd love to see you at 186 Prince George Street while the blooms are beautiful. The 2-acre garden is open from 10 am - 2 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Guided tours are offered on the hour starting at 10 am! Visit our website to book your tickets ahead of your visit for no-contact payment and entry.
See you in the Garden!
